As the only Artist Run Initiative (ARI) in Central Australia, we provide a constructive and supportive environment for artists to develop, collaborate and experiment through exhibitions, residencies, festivals, performances, offsite projects and an onsite studio community, all within a unique geographical, social and cultural landscape: Mparntwe / Alice Springs.

Having come this far - celebrating our 25th Anniversary in 2018 - we are now looking to the future. With the funds raised in our 25 MORE campaign we will continue creating and presenting new artistic work in our distinct context; keep expenses down for exhibiting and resident artists; and support the development, production and promotion of new work. We want to sustain this organisation that has been a vital and important contributor to Australia’s creative landscape and arts sector.

Through our Annual Creative Program we support a number of causes, groups and communities...

1. We value, encourage, facilitate and promote contemporary art and the artists who create it. This includes a range of practices including installation, video, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, drawing, painting, photography, sound, performance, text, social practice, music, dance and more. We support artists based locally, in the wider-NT, nationally and internationally.

2. We are strong advocates for Artist Run Initiatives, recognising the huge role they play in breaking barriers, creating influence, and facilitating experimentation and change.

3. We are part of the regional revolution: we pride ourselves on creating innovative and exciting work in a remote area and cheer on all others who also contribute to this cause!

4. We love our special community in Mparntwe/Alice Springs. It has shaped who we are, made us think and question, made us stronger and importantly sensitive, and informed every project we’ve worked on for the absolute best. It is a powerfully complex place and we will never stop caring for it.

As do most small to medium government funded arts organisations, we exist in a state of constant threat of being defunded or having to bend to the whim of political trends. We have a long and important legacy at WTS, and one of the things we pride ourselves on is weathering many a storm and striving to better support the vibrant contemporary arts community in Central Australia. With the support of the Plus1 campaign - meaning your donations go twice as far - we will be sustainably positioning ourselves to not only better support the artists who access and rely upon the organisation, but the WTS staff, resources and infrastructure will have a chance to grow and continue to thrive for many years to come. It will ensure the long-term sustainability of a significant organisation, one that is deeply valued by its local community and has an important place in the wider creative landscape of Australia.

DGR STATUS

WTS has a tax-deductible fund listed on the Australian Government's Register of Cultural Organisations maintained under Subdivision 30-B of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997. This means any donation you make of $2 or more is tax-deductible - a great way to support the li'l guys whilst saving your pocket!

SURCHARGE

Donations through the website take a 4.05% surcharge. You can either add a little extra to take this into account, or you can leave it and your tax-deductible receipt will show 4.05% less of the total donation.
