On Wednesday 25th August, days before our local government election in Alice Springs, and to commemorate one year of the Walk-In Cinema, Watch This Space is hosting this very special event.

We invite you to gather on the Council Lawns at 6:00pm to join the marching procession south on Gap Rd. Upon arrival at Watch This Space, the Alice Springs Town Band will perform fanfare while you enjoy refreshments before the screening.

Rats in the Ranks
Largely documented within the walls of the Leichhardt council chambers Rats in the Ranks counts down to the 1994 mayoral election in the inner-city Sydney [Eora] municipality. Filmmakers Bob Connolly and Robin Anderson were granted unprecedented access to the chambers and the 12 councillors within them. Their poignant and petty oversharing delivers a uniquely political docu-drama narrative, investigating the decision making processes that still determine our local (and federal) governments.

The filmmakers said: “This is not a film about ideological differences, and there’s very little mention of policy.” This is a film that points to ‘the ego’ and acts as a microcosm, showcasing the unique tension central to any election.

Entry to the Walk-In Cinema is always free.
