Seeking a Watch this Space & Solar Protocol Steward
Solar Protocol is a custom network of solar-powered servers that hosts a collection of websites including the Solar Protocol web platform (http://solarprotocol.net/). For the past couple of years, Watch this Space has been home to one of the Solar Protocol servers and we are currently seeking an Alice Springs based, technologically-minded (or enthusiastic) person to do some maintenance, repair and stewardship of the server. You will work with our remote team to learn about the server’s hardware and software and get it online. Beyond this, there is lots of room for collaborative experimentation, developing projects to host on the network or developing programming around it based on your own interests/availability.
Familiarity with or enthusiasm for learning about open source computing or web development would be a plus (eg. working with a raspberry pi, or the command line).
The server is currently in need of maintenance. We expect that it will take 3-6 hours to get it up and running again (and we would help you do this via video calls). After this, we expect that the maintenance should be fairly minimal (estimating a couple hours every few months). We consider this a volunteer position, however we can provide a one-time small stipend of $500 AUD as a token of appreciation for your contribution to the project.
