Squash It Out
Lachie McDonald

Stepping foot into the squash court can bring about some unexpected urges. It can feel very good to give that little ball a good WHACK!
We all have emotions/feelings/urges/sensations and parts of ourselves which don’t get much floor time.
Play, anger, destructiveness, movement, exploration and humour are very easily restricted in our lives for a variety of reasons.
Here is some encouragement to get in touch with some of those parts of yourself which may be a bit more hidden and primal.
Sport as catharsis. Squash it out.

In partnership with our Gap Rd neighbours, the Alice Springs Squash Association, Watch This Space is excited to announce the inaugural Squash Court Exhibition in 2022. For the annual fee of $100.00 we have purchased the advertising banner on Court 1 at the squash centre. Artists were then invited to submit proposals for artwork that would thrive in an environment battered with a small rubber ball, over and over, by two or four active spectators.

Please join us at the intersection of art and sport for an inaugural match.

Bio

Born and raised in Naarm/Melbourne, I studied graphics at Monash Uni. After living and working in Sydney at an advertising production studio specialising in high end CGI image creation, I moved back to Melbourne where I spent a couple of years lecturing at Monash Uni and building a kinetic sculpture which sits unfinished in a storage shed.
