Eye View
Stick Mob
Two artists getting to know each other through different eye views, angles, perspectives, and cultures… ohhh… and did we mention age groups.
Face-to-face drawings that take courage, dry and dark humour and lots of art materials and experimentation - to look through what is seen in the moment to capture on paper and canvas what is not yet known.
Seraphina Newberry (Arrernte b. 2003) is showcasing her work in preparation for the Archibald Prize.
Wendy Cowan (Irish b. 1963) is a tea addict; drawing is part of her recovery program
In February of 2022, we started sketching each other using quick and slow marks on paper. Over time we began to trust the boundaries to morph into other materials and themes - portraits, speculative fiction, collage, prints, paper mache. We are creating a map of relationships - from rocky ridges to fiery corkwood deserts to underwater ebbs and flows with lots of materials and many stories.
We made an ‘infinity’ zine to show our sketches for the WTS Zine Fair. Check it out on our Stick Mob Studio website.
“I want to try different art styles. I thought one day I would enter the Archibald Prize. This WTS exhibition is an experiment in painting expressions ready for the Art Gallery of NSW! Originally, I wanted to enter the Junior Archies, but I was declined because I am now too old!” – Seraphina Newberry :)
