The Loftys
WTS's Annual Award for High Endeavour In The Arts In Central Australia
The Lofty Award is named in honour of Pamela Lofts, one of the founding members of Watch this Space ARI in 1993. The award recognises her dedication to her arts practice, consistently producing works of a high quality across a variety of media, and her contribution to the development and exhibition of contemporary and experimental art and the cultural dialogue in Mparntwe/Alice Springs and Central Australia.
Each year since 2011, The Lofty has been presented to a special and deserving individual in our local arts community. The award is designed to acknowledge the recipient's achievements in the arts and/or contribution to the community through their practice, recognising those who play a role in the ever evolving creative culture of Central Australia.
Whilst the award is given to an individual, it is also the broader community who benefit as it enables a wide range of people to be inspired and participate in arts and culture. It is a chance for to come together and recognise the individuals who are responsible for nurturing and maintaining this vibrant community in and around Alice Springs. The awards ceremony is accompanied by celebrations, wild performances, music, speeches and lots and lots of love.
The 2018 winner of the Lofty will receive a locally designed commemorative trophy commissioned by Watch This Space, a lifetime membership to Watch This Space and inclusion in the 2019 program, and a $1000 cash prize.
Previous winners of the award are Franca Barraclough, David Nixon, Kieran Finnane, J9 Stanton, Doris Kngwarraye Stuart and Elliat Rich.
