Tony Albert (QLD) & Titmoteus Anggawan Kusno (INDO)
Tony Albert from Queensland and Timoteus Anggawan Kusno from Yogyakarta are this year’s recipients of the Kerjasama Residency program. Through his art practice Tony questions how society understands, imagines and constructs difference while Angga is interested in historiography and his practice seeks to expose dominant culture meta-narratives that pervade colonised countries.
The two artists have been collaborating on a project during their time in Alice Springs as well as working with artists from Ngurratjuta. The artists arrived last month and are now in the final days of stage one of their reciprocal residency.
Tony and Angga are eager to share their experiences and showcase the work completed and in process through a pop-up exhibition and artists talk this Sat at 11am. All welcome.
ASIALINK ARTS RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Launched in 2014 as part of Asialink’s Arts Residency Laboratory in partnership with Artback NT, Australia and Cemeti House, Indonesia, the Kerjasama (‘collaborate’) program facilitates an Indigenous Australian and Indonesian artist to come together to create new work. This reciprocal residency program provides artists with the opportunity to spend six weeks in Alice Springs followed by six weeks in Yogyakarta to develop a project.
Watch This Space has been proud to support visiting artists in our association with the Asialink Residency Program and partners. In 2015 we had the pleasure of hosting artists Karla Dickens and Doni Maulistya. Karla is a Wiradjuri woman and artist from New South Wales and Doni is an artist from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and both participated in our Golden Mile Art Camp (Blue Gum Boot Art Camp) which resulted in a pop-up exhibition by Doni, “How to Draw Waterhole” at Watch This Space gallery.
